Cyndi Howerton was elected by special election and has served in the Kansas House of Representatives since 2021. In the 2023-2024 term, Cyndi was appointed as Vice-Chair of the Water Committee and serves on the committees on Taxation, Child Welfare and Foster Care, and Legislative Modernization. She was also appointed to the Joint Committee on Child Welfare Oversight and has served on several interim committees.
She brings a rich background and diverse experience to her candidacy for District 98. Growing up on a farm, she learned the values of hard work and integrity from her parents, both retired educators. Despite her family's strong ties to education, Cyndi pursued and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. For the past 21 years, she has excelled in managing multiple retail offices for a tax preparation company, overseeing hiring, training, and daily operations.
Her professional experience has also given her valuable insights into Kansas' tax laws and the financial challenges faced by its residents. Cyndi's commitment to education, rooted deeply in her family upbringing, remains steadfast. She believes education is foundational and crucial for the future of Kansas.
Faith and family are central to Cyndi's life. Married to Con, a Desert Storm Veteran and pastor, they have four daughters and five grandchildren. Actively involved in her church, Cyndi has volunteered extensively, supporting individuals battling mental health issues and serving as a Parent Advocate with AgapeCare Cradle, aiding families during times of infant loss. She is a registered republican.
Cyndi Howerton is dedicated to representing the citizens of District 98 in Topeka. Her independence, combined with a strong work ethic and a compassionate heart, makes her uniquely qualified to bring common sense solutions to the challenges facing Kansas. As a daughter of educators, a manager of a significant business, a veteran's wife, and a pillar of her community, Cyndi embodies the leadership and empathy needed to make a positive impact in state politics.
Kansas House District 98 encompasses sections of Wichita, Haysville, Derby, Salem Township and Riverside Township.
